How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 with PwnageTool 4.3.1

Step 1

• Download iOS 4.3.1 (for iPhone/iPod Touch)
• Download PwnageTool 4.3
• Download PwnageTool

Step 2

Open the downloaded PwnageTool.dmg and copy the PwnageTool.app to your desktop and execute it from there.

Hit the OK button.

Step 3

Now select Expert Mode from the top left side of the window.

and then select your iDevice. Hit the Next button.

Step 4

Now hit the Browse for IPSW button and select iOS 4.3.1 firmware for your device (downloaded from Step 1).

Step 5

On next screen, Select General and hit the Next arrow button.

Step 6

iPhone users:

• Select Activate the phone option if you’re on unofficial carrier.
• Do NOT select Activate the phone option if you’re on official carrier e.g. AT&T.

Step 7

Keep hitting Next button until you’re back to the same screen where you selected General.

Now Select the Build Option and Hit Next.

PwnageTool will prompt you to select a destination folder to save custom iOS 4.3.1.

PwnageTool will start building your Custom IPSW.

During the build process it’ll prompt you for your admin password.

Step 8

Once the custom IPSW has been built, PwnageTool will ask you to connect your iDevice to your computer. Once your device is detected, you’ll be instructed to put your iDevice into DFU mode.

• Press and hold the power + home buttons for 10 seconds.
• Release the power button but continue holding the home button for 10 seconds.

Once the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad is in DFU mode, the follow popup message will appear. iTunes will also pop-up.

Step 9

In iTunes, hold the Alt/Option key and hit Restore. From the popup window, browse to the Folder where you saved custom iOS 4.3.1 and select your custom .ipsw file that you just created and click Open Button. (Make sure you’re selecting custom firmware, Not stock one)

iTunes will now restore the firmware on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. This can take up to 10 minutes.

When done, you have successfully Jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 firmware with PwnageTool 4.1.

Step 1

Download the required stuff linked below and put them on your desktop.

Step 2

Run the Sn0wBreeze.exe. Hit Ok and then Close Credits button. and then hit the next button.

Step 7

Now follow the on screen instructions to put your iDevices into Pwned State. Sn0wBreeze instructions are important to follow because this will put iDevice into Pwned DFU state NOT the simple DFU mode.

• Hold Power + Home buttons for 10 seconds
• Now release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 10-30 more seconds
• Your device should now be in DFU mode

Sn0wBreeze will prompt you once you’re into Pwned DFU state.

Step 8

Now open iTunes, Hold down the Shift key and hit the Restore button.
Browse and select the custom firmware that we just created, from the desktop.

iTunes will start restoring iOS 4.3.1 on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch/Apple TV 2G. Once the restore process is complete, your device will be running iOS 4.3.1 jailbroken.

Download your desired firmware for which you’ve SHSH blobs saved and want to downgrade to:

Download TinyUmbrella

If you’ve SHSH blobs saved on Saurik’s server via Cydia, download them into your computer first. To do that:

Connect your device, Fire up the TinyUmbrella and Check mark the Advanced Options.
Select your device and hit the save SHSH button. that’s it.

Step 1 – DFU Mode

Put your iPhone into DFU Mode (How to: enter DFU Mode)

Step 2 – Start TSS Server

Run the TinyUmbrella
select your device from the left pane and make sure that downloaded SHSH blobs has been cached (right pane) by TinyUmbrella for iOS 4.3.1, 4.2.1, 4.1 or older.
Now hit the Start TSS Server button.

Step 3 – Restoring The Firmware

Open the iTunes
Hold down the Shift (Windows)/Alt (Mac) key and hit the Restore button.
Select the downloaded firmware (iOS 4.3, iOS 4.2.1, iOS 4.1 or older) and let the restore process complete.
iTunes should bring up the error 1015, 1013 or 1011 message. Don’t worry, it’s normal. You’ve successfully downgraded your iPhone/iPod Touch firmware.

Step 4 – Getting Out Of Recovery

Now in order to get out of recovery mode, hit the “Kick Device Out of Recovery” button on TinyUmbrella right below the Start TSS Server button or you can also use RecBoot. That’s it!

Method 2: Edit Hosts File

**We assume that you’ve SHSH blobs saved via Saurik’s Cydia server.

Download your desired firmware for which you’ve SHSH blobs saved and want to downgrade:

Step 1 – DFU Mode

Put your iPhone into DFU Mode (How to: enter DFU Mode)

Step 2 – Editing Hosts File

Now we are going to redirect iTunes from Apple Servers to Saurik’s server.

Windows:

Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and locate hosts file.
Open and edit the hosts file in Notepad.

NOTE: Win 7 and Vista users MUST run Notepad with admin privileges. Right click on Notepad app and select Run as Administrator.

Mac OS X:

Go to \etc\ directory and locate hosts file. Copy it on your desktop
Open the hosts file in TextEdit.

Add the following line at the end of the hosts file and then save and close the file:

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

Mac OS X users needs to copy the edited hosts file from desktop back to /etc/ directory and replace the older one.

Step 3 – Restoring The Firmware

Now Open the iTunes.
Hold down the Shift (Windows)/Alt (Mac) key and hit the Restore button.
Select the downloaded firmware (4.3.1 / 4.3 / 4.2.x / iOS 4.1, iOS 4.0.1 or older) and let the restore process complete.
iTunes will bring up error 1015, 1013 or 1011 message. Don’t worry, it’s normal. You’ve successfully downgraded your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad 2, 1 firmware.

Step 4 – Getting Out Of Recovery

iOS 4.3.3 is out with Location tracking bug fix. In case you have updated to iOS 4.3.3 and want to downgrade iOS 4.3.3 to 4.3.2 / 4.3.1 / 4.3 / 4.2.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad or iPod Touch, this guide is for you. These are the instructions to downgrade iOS 4.3.3 to 4.3.2, 4.3.1, 4.3, 4.2.1 using TinyUmbrella or by editing Hosts file.

NOTE: You must have SHSH blobs saved for the firmware you’re downgrading to, otherwise this won’t work. You can see for which firmware SHSH blobs are saved for your iDevice in Cydia.
How to: Save SHSH blobs for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad

*** You cannot downgrade iPhone Baseband, at least for now.

Downgrade iOS 4.3.3 to 4.3.2, 4.3.1, 4.3, 4.2.1

Download your desired firmware for which you’ve SHSH blobs saved and wanna downgrade to:

• Download iOS 4.3.2
• Download iOS 4.3.1
• Download iOS 4.3
• Download iOS 4.2.1
• Download iPhone Firmwares

Method 1: Using TinyUmbrella

Download TinyUmbrella

If you’ve SHSH blobs saved on Saurik’s server via Cydia, download them into your computer first. To do that:

Connect your device, Fire up the TinyUmbrella
Select your device and hit the save SHSH button. that’s it.

Step 1 – DFU Mode

Put your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch into DFU Mode (How to: enter DFU Mode)

Step 2 – Start TSS Server

Run the TinyUmbrella
Select your device from the left pane and make sure that downloaded SHSH blobs has been cached (right pane) by TinyUmbrella for iOS 4.3.2, iOS 4.3.1, 4.2.1, 4.1 or older.
Now hit the Start TSS Server button.

Step 3 – Restoring The Firmware

Open the iTunes
Hold down the Shift (Windows)/Alt (Mac) key and hit the Restore button.
Select the downloaded firmware (iOS 4.3.x, iOS 4.2.1, iOS 4.1 or older) and let the restore process complete.
iTunes should bring up the error 1015, 1013 or 1011 message. Don’t worry, it’s normal. You’ve successfully downgraded your iPhone/iPod Touch firmware.

Step 4 – Getting Out Of Recovery

Now in order to get out of recovery mode, hit the “Kick Device Out of Recovery” button on TinyUmbrella right below the Start TSS Server button or you can also use RecBoot. That’s it!

Method 2: Edit Hosts File

**We assume that you’ve SHSH blobs saved via Saurik’s Cydia server.

Download your desired firmware for which you’ve SHSH blobs saved and want to downgrade:

• Download iOS 4.3.2
• Download iOS 4.3.1
• Download iOS 4.3
• Download iOS 4.2.1
• Download iPhone Firmwares

Step 1 – DFU Mode

Put your iPhone into DFU Mode (How to: enter DFU Mode)

Step 2 – Editing Hosts File

Now we are going to redirect iTunes from Apple Servers to Saurik’s server.

Windows:

Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and locate hosts file.
Open and edit the hosts file in Notepad.

NOTE: Win 7 and Vista users MUST run Notepad with admin privileges. Right click on Notepad app and select Run as Administrator.

Mac OS X:

Go to \etc\ directory and locate hosts file. Copy it on your desktop
Open the hosts file in TextEdit.

Add the following line at the end of the hosts file and then save and close the file:

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

Mac OS X users needs to copy the edited hosts file from desktop back to /etc/ directory and replace the older one.

Step 3 – Restoring The Firmware

Now Open the iTunes.
Hold down the Shift (Windows)/Alt (Mac) key and hit the Restore button.
Select the downloaded firmware (4.3.1 / 4.3 / 4.2.x / iOS 4.1, iOS 4.0.1 or older) and let the restore process complete.
iTunes will bring up error 1015, 1013 or 1011 message. Don’t worry, it’s normal. You’ve successfully downgraded your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad 2, 1 firmware.

Step 4 – Getting Out Of Recovery

Now in order to get out of recovery mode, hit the “Kick Device Out of Recovery” button on TinyUmbrella right below the Start TSS Server button or you can also use RecBoot. That’s it!

Note: You must now remove 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com line from the host file and save it. Doing this will let iTunes to prompt you about future updates from Apple.

PwnageTool 4.3.3 is out to jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 untethered. These are the steps to jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 4G, 3G with PwnageTool 4.3.3. PwnageTool 4.3.3 jailbreak steps are same for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad and iPod Touch 4G, 3G.

PwnageTool will preserve iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS baseband so that you can unlock with UltraSn0w later. Windows users can use Sn0wbreeze 2.7 to jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 untethered on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 4G, 3G.

*** No iPad 2 Support.
*** iPod Touch and iPad users are recommended to use RedSn0w 0.9.6rc15 instead.

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 with PwnageTool 4.3.3

Step 1

• Download iOS 4.3.3
• Download PwnageTool 4.3.3
• Download PwnageTool
• Download iTunes 10.2.2

Step 2

Open the downloaded PwnageTool.dmg and copy the PwnageTool.app to your desktop and execute it from there;
Hit the OK button;
Now select Expert Mode from the top left side of the window;

and then select your iDevice. Hit the Next button.

Now hit the Browse for IPSW button and select iOS 4.3.3 firmware for your device (downloaded from Step 1);
On next screen, Select General and hit the Next arrow button;
iPhone users:

• Select Activate the phone option if you’re on unofficial carrier.
• Do NOT select Activate the phone option if you’re on official carrier e.g. AT&T.

Keep hitting Next button until you’re back to the same screen where you selected General.
Now Select the Build Option and Hit Next.

PwnageTool will prompt you to select a destination folder to save custom iOS 4.3.3;
PwnageTool will start building your Custom IPSW;
During the build process it’ll prompt you for your admin password.

Step 3

Once the custom IPSW has been built, PwnageTool 4.3.3 will ask you to connect your iDevice to your computer. Once your device is detected, you’ll be instructed to put your iDevice into DFU mode.

• Press and hold the power + home buttons for 10 seconds.
• Release the power button but continue holding the home button for 10 seconds.

Once the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad is in DFU mode, the follow popup message will appear. iTunes will also pop-up.

Step 4

In iTunes, hold the Alt/Option key and hit Restore. From the popup window, browse to the Folder where you saved custom iOS 4.3.3 and select your custom .ipsw file that you just created and click Open Button. (Make sure you’re selecting custom firmware, Not stock one)

iTunes will now restore the firmware on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. This can take up to 10 minutes.

When done, you have successfully Jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 firmware with PwnageTool 4.3.3.

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 with Sn0wBreeze 2.7

Step 1

Download the required stuff linked below and put them on your desktop.

• Download iOS 4.3.3 for your device.
• Download Sn0wBreeze 2.7
• Download iTunes 10.2.2 and install it.

Step 2

Run the Sn0wBreeze.exe. Hit Ok and then Close Credits button. and then hit the next button.

Step 3

Either drag & drop the iOS 4.3.3 firmware file in the given box or hit the Browse button and select the iOS 4.3.3 IPSW file for your iDevice.

Sn0wBreeze will identify the IPSW firmware file. When done, hit the next button.

Step 4

Select the Expert Mode, Hit next button, then select General and hit Next.

Step 5

**If you depend on unlock make sure Activate The iPhone [Hacktivate] option is checked/selected.

Make your desired choices, then keep hitting Next.

Step 6

Now select the Build IPSW option and hit next.

Sn0wBreeze will start building custom firmware to jailbreak your iPhone 4, 3GS, idevice. Since the building process takes several minutes to complete, you can either choose to play PacMan or stick with the Spinner.

Once Done! Hit the OK button. (Custom firmware can be found on desktop)

Step 7

Now follow the Sn0wbreeze instructions to put your iDevices into Pwned State. Sn0wBreeze instructions are important to follow because this will put iDevice into Pwned DFU state NOT the simple DFU mode.

• Hold Power + Home buttons for 10 seconds
• Now release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 10-30 more seconds
• Your device should now be in DFU mode

Sn0wBreeze will prompt you once you’re into Pwned DFU state.

Step 8

Now open iTunes, Hold down the Shift/Option key and hit the Restore button.
Browse and select the custom firmware that we just created, from the desktop.

iTunes will start restoring iOS 4.3.3 on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch/Apple TV 2G. Once done, your iPhone, ipad or iPod Touch will be running iOS 4.3.3 jailbroken untethered.

iFaith is a new SHSH dumping tool for all iOS devices which lets you save SHSH blobs an old firmware currently running on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch even if it’s not being signed by Apple. iFaith is developed by iH8Sn0w, the dev behind Sn0wbreeze, f0recast and iREB.

SHSH blobs are necessary to downgrade firmware, without these SHSH blobs you can not restore a firmware which is not being signed by Apple and once Apple stops signing a firmware, you cannot save SHSH blobs for it. This is where iFaith comes in. Using iFaith, you can save SHSH blobs for an old firmware running on your iDevice even if Apple has stopped signing it. iFaith not only backup SHSH blobs, it can also build custom .IPSW using those blobs.

iFaith supports: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, iPad and the Apple TV 2G (Devices vulnerable to Limera1n jailbreak exploit). iPad 2 is not supported.

How to Save SHSH blobs of an Old Firmware with iFaith

Step 1

Download iFaith

Step 2

Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to your computer and execute the iFaith program.

Step 3

and click on Dump SHSH Blobs button.

Hit the Proceed button, followed by Let’s Go!.

Step 4

Follow on screen instructions to put your iDevice into DFU Mode:

1. Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
2. Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds
3. You device should now be in DFU mode

Once the iDevice is in DFU mode, iFaith will start the SHSH blob dumping  process.

Step 5

Once done, iFaith will prompt you to save the SHSH blob on local drive.

iFaith also keeps a copy of the SHSH blobs on its server.

That’s it! you’ve successfully save SHSH blobs for an old firmware currently installed on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

• For those unfamiliar, a tethered jailbreak means you will have to connect your iDevice to a computer, every time you reboot, in order to boot it into jailbreak state. (Tether boot instructions can be found below)
• If you depend on UltraSn0w unlock, avoid Redsn0w, or the stock iOS 5 firmware.

How to Jailbreak iOS 5 with RedSn0w 0.9.8b

Step 1

• Download RedSn0w 0.9.8b
• Download iTunes 10.5 beta (requires Dev account)
• Download iOS 5 beta (requires Dev account)

Step 2

Restore iOS 5 beta on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and keep it connected to your computer via USB.
***You can skip this step if you’re already running iOS 5 beta.

Step 3

Execute the Redsn0w 0.9.8

Step 4

Hit the Browse button and select iOS 5 beta firmware (downloaded in Step 1). RedSn0w will recognize your IPSW file. Then hit Next.

Step 5

Now check mark “Install Cydia” and hit Next.

Step 6

Now make sure your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is turned OFF and Plugged in to your computer. Hit Next.

Step 7

Now you’ll be instructed to put your iDevice into DFU Mode. Follow the on screen instructions.

1. Hold Down The Power (Corner) button for 3 Seconds
2. Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (Bottom Center) button for 10 seconds
3. Without releasing the Home button, release the Power button BUT KEEP holding the Home button for 15 seconds

Once you’ve successfully entered into DFU mode, RedSn0w will start jailbreaking iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 4G, 3G on iOS 5 tethered. When done! your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad will be jailbroken tethered on iOS 5.

How to Tether Boot

Each time you reboot/restart/turn off your iDevice you will have to connect it to a computer in order to boot it into jailbreak state. In order to do that:

Open Redsn0w, provide it the IPSW file and choose the option Just boot tethered right now and proceed.

Like I told you earlier, it’s a tethered jailbreak.

• On your desktop, there’ll be a new folder named iBooty. Open the folder and run the iBooty.exe.
• Select your device from the drop down menu (bottom-right) and hit the start button.
• Follow the on screen instructions to put your iDevice into DFU mode.
  • Hold Power + Home buttons for 10 seconds.
  • Now release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 10-30 more seconds
• Your device should now be in DFU mode
• Once you’re into DFU mode, iBooty will do the rest and your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will boot into jailbroken state!

Backup your personal stuff via iTunes before starting the process.

Step 1

Download iOS 4.3.3

• Connect your iPod Touch 4G / 3G to your computer and open iTunes;
• Select your iPod Touch from the left navigation pane under devices list in iTunes;
• Hold Down the Shift (Windows) or Alt/Option (Mac) key and click the Restore button;
• Browse and select the downloaded iOS 4.3.3 IPSW and restore it.

Step 2

• Make sure your iPod Touch 4G or iPod Touch 3G is running iOS 4.3.3 and connected to internet;
• Open the Safari Browser from your iPhone Springboard;
• Input the following URL: www.jailbreakme.com

• RedSn0w 0.9.8 b3 provides tethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4. For those unfamiliar, a tethered jailbreak means you will have to connect your iDevice to a computer, every time you reboot, in order to boot it into jailbreak state. (Tether boot instructions can be found below)
• Dev-Team: For the convenience of kernel hackers like @comex and @i0n1c, we have a new redsn0w 0.9.8b3 that supports a TETHERED jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4 on all devices that have 4.3.4 except the iPad 2.
• The vast majority of people will want to stay back at 4.3.3 because that’s where the untethered jailbreak is!
• There are no new features in 4.3.4 — only fixes for jailbreak exploits used in JailbreakMe 3.0.

How to Jailbreak iPod Touch 4G / 3G iOS 4.3.4 with RedSn0w

Step 1

• Download RedSn0w 0.9.8 b3
• Download iTunes 10.3
• Download iOS 4.3.4

Step 2

Restore iOS 4.3.4 on your iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G and keep it connected to your computer via USB.
***You can skip this step if you’re already running iOS 4.3.4.

Step 3

Execute the Redsn0w.

Step 4

Hit the Browse button and select iOS 4.3.4 firmware (downloaded in Step 1). RedSn0w will recognize your IPSW file. Then hit Next.

Step 5

Now check mark Install Cydia and hit Next.

Step 6

Now make sure your iPod Touch is turned OFF and Plugged in to your computer. Hit Next.

Step 7

Now you’ll be instructed to put your iPod Touch into DFU Mode. Follow the on screen instructions.

• Hold Down The Power (Corner) button for 3 Seconds
• Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (Bottom Center) button for 10 seconds
• Without releasing the Home button, release the Power button BUT KEEP holding the Home button for 15 seconds

Once you’ve successfully entered into DFU mode, RedSn0w will start jailbreaking iPod Touch 4G, 3G on iOS 4.3.4 tethered. When done! your iPod Touch will be jailbroken tethered on iOS 4.3.4 firmware.

How to Tether Boot

Each time you reboot/restart/turn off your iDevice you will have to connect it to a computer in order to boot it into jailbreak state. In order to do that:

Open Redsn0w, provide it the IPSW file and choose the option Just boot tethered right now and proceed.

• RedSn0w 0.9.8 beta provides tethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.5. For those unfamiliar, a tethered jailbreak means you will have to connect your iDevice to a computer, every time you reboot, in order to boot it into jailbreak state. (Tether boot instructions can be found below)
• If you want to keep your untethered jailbreak you better stay at iOS 4.3.3 and avoid iOS 4.3.4 or 4.3.5.
• If you depend on UltraSn0w unlock, avoid Redsn0w, or the stock iOS 4.3.5 firmware.
• iPad 2 is obviously not supported.

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.5 with RedSn0w [Tethered]

Step 1

• Download RedSn0w 0.9.8 b4
• Downlaod iOS 4.3.5
• Download iOS 4.3.4 (also required)

Step 2

Make sure iTunes 10.4 is installed. Restore iOS 4.3.4 on your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad or iPod Touch 4G/3G and keep it connected to your computer via USB.
***You can skip this step if you’re already running iOS 4.3.5.

Step 3

Execute the Redsn0w. Hit the Browse button and select iOS 4.3.4 firmware (Not iOS 4.3.5). RedSn0w will recognize your IPSW file. Then hit Next.
